Default I've been confused by this for so long but what are peoples thoughts on IC's for our car

My front bumpter and hood get replaced/repaired next week. I've always been torn about it but if im going to do it this is the one time I would really consider it. What are peoples thoughts on the RS4 ic's and variotions. No one seems to have a FMIC for sale that is proven to work either? with k04s in new england is it worth it? Who's would you buy

Default Here are my thoughts and some numbers.

The K04s work at a lower AIT (Air Intake Temp) range @ higer boost than K03s. So right there you are ahead of the game. The major concern for you is pressure drop. @ 24psi the stock intercoolers have 2.5 Psi of drop, the RS4 has 1.5, and the new AWE have 1 psi much like my FMIC. You want the least amount of pressure drop as possible but it is necessary to have some. You need to have ample time for the chardged air to cool. Now as for cooling, intercooler mass playes a large part. You want your intercooler to be able to absorb as much heat with out loading up (heat soak) as possible. In this case it is good to have some weight in the intercooler. The stock intercoolers will load up in as much as 2 dyno runs. By the time you hit the 3rd run you lost 60hp to high AITs. The RS4 are a little better, but liquid to air was able to do 6 back to back runs with little to no change in the HP/TQ figures. Now you tell me if it is worth the weight/wait 8^)

Default How do the AWE Air-to-Air IC's measure up to the RS4 ones in terms of heatsoak?

I definitely like the lower pressure drop and the easier install with no cutting idea.

Just don't think I want to have to deal with the water reservoir of the Air-to-water units.

Default I am not sure about the AWE A/A system.

I wasn't around when they were being tested. They do share the same core and end tanks though so the pressure drop is the same as the L/A. Personally I think that they will be around the same as the RS4 as per heat soak but 1/2 pound less pressure drop and they fit original hoses with no hacking to your car.

Default Weight and wait

There is more weight involved with the L/A setup but it is defainately worth it. This is the only system that will allow you LOWER than ambiet AITs. As for the wait, Todd is be very meticulous with the testing and comparisons. He wants to make sure all bases are covered before releasing any systems. I would say with in a month you will see them on the market.

Also the reservoir in the L/A is pretty trick. Kenny gets a big pat on the back for that one 8^)
