or something similar? I've been reading back issues of Sport Compact Car's Ultimate Street Car Challenge and all these different 4wd cars, Skyline, STI, Evo, TT all seem to be able to remove a particular fuse and go 2wd. I wish we had adjustable center diffs like the rally twins. So, is it possible? I really wanta know.

Default I would beg to differ... electronic systems like the haldex are ****..

the are twitchy on corner entry since they are in fwd mode... then if the cars tires loose tracton the car slams into awd... not very smooth and very hard to control well on a track. Not to mention they cant handel big hp... the car never engages awd. The streetwerke guys were having a real problems getting the power down part in due to the haldex system

Default i agree with you on all but one point...

corner entry / exit with the electronics *thinking* about where to send the power can make it very difficult to me smooth. so bascially i agree with you on all of the impact it has on the driving experience.

however - the haldex can hold buttloads of torque!!! i can't recall which rag i was reading last month, but they featured a twin turbo 3.2 tt dsg that was putting out numbers well into the s4 stage III neighborhood on stock internals and a stock powertrain. so apparentely the haldex and dsg do quite well under high load, even if <we> don't like the way the haldex works :-P

Default It was the HPA TT and they pay big bucks in advertising to the magazines... I

actually spoke with the test and competition driver for HPA at the ET GP and he had all sorts of complaints about the Haldex driveline. With big tq and hp cars the Haldex gets easily over powered and does not engage the rear wheels. This was one of the problems all the Haldex cars were having at the ET GP. Not to mention HPA blew up a boat load of DSG/Haldex boxes in making that TT ... but it would do them no good to make design a kit and then let everyone that the power eats expensive gearboxs...but that is the reality of it.

The haldex/DSG is fine if you dont plan on modifying or tracking your car.... I would never buy one... I would buy a DGS with quattro once they are able to get more hp through the box without them blowing up. That is why you don't seen them in the S4, RS4, RS6 or any big hp car... the unit cannot handel it. The only DSG gearbox in a high hp car is in the Veryon and that car costs 1.2 million.

So there are really two problems... the DSG can't handel high hp without imploding neither can the Haldex and work properly. If you talk with anyone who has driven high hp Haldexs they will tell you the same thing.

Default I don't know much about this stuff, but yeah I've heard Haldex sucks

I didn't realize there was so much electronic intervention with all systems. Do you get all that funky crap on cars like the STi where you have the ability to change torque split?

Perhaps I should keep my mouth shut unless I really know what I'm talking about - sorry, I'm still drunk from last night :-x

Default I don't know much about the STI or EVO awd systems.. but I have not heard many

complaints about them... and they are fast around a track which would lead me to believe they are pretty solid. I just can't speak forsure on the subject.

and no worries... get back on that horse... a little hair of the dog always helps:^)
