Hmm.. does stage 3 fall under "severe service applications"? I don't think I have the nerve to go 10k miles without changing the oil, let alone 15k I think I'll stick with 5k mile change intervals. BTW, it's around $26/5qt at Walmart.

One way to find out: have your oil analyzed, ala OWK.

Ok, so you put in oil that will shear easily? Why did you do that?

It doesn't list meeting the requirements set forth by Audi.

What do you mean by 'shear'? Do all Mobil One oils do this?

Default All oils can shear, but the "HTHS" rating is a measure by how resistant that oil is to shear.

The M1 EP 5w30 has an HTHS of ~3.0. 502 requires an HTHS of 3.5 & above.

Only difference between M1 EP and regular M1 is that it has a higher TBN, or basically more additive pack.

Default Read:

Shear Stability

AMSOIL Series 2000 Synthetic 0W-30 Motor Oil is highly shear-resistant. With AMSOIL Series 2000 Synthetic 0W-30 Motor Oil's excellent viscosity retention, the protection that goes into the engine is the protection that stays in the engine, even over an extended course of severe service.

Amsoil 0w30
