Default Just got done checking my oil.... quick question....

I ended up having to put in a whole quart of oil, it was down that low. I don't have any leaks from what I can tell. There are no signs of drips on the pavement. It has only been 4k miles on the oil and I was going to be changing it after the next 1k miles. Is this normal or am I looking at having to take it into the dealership?

Default Sounds like your going through a lot of oil. I rarely ever have to add oil

between oil changes.

It's normal if you drive the car hard for those 4K miles

Default I really haven't pushed the car that much.

Of course occasionally would get on the gas a bit. Mostly it has been commuting back and forth to work.

Default Dino or synthetic? If dino, then I would say it isn't that bad - but synth; yes.

With out engines running pretty hot, the lighter fractions actually do boil off and get sucked into the intake manifold and burned. Synth doesn't have as high a percentage of volatiles as dino does. Even so, I doubt your dealer would do anything for 1/4 quart per 1,000 miles avg. oil consumption. It usually has to be higher than 1 quart per 1000 before they will look into the situation (my experience). Also once you are down some oil, it tends to use more as there is less oil overall in the car - the second pint gets used faster than the first pint, relatively speaking.

Default Something is up. I rarely have to add oil, and then not very much.

Fill it up and then check it often to see whether it repeats the issue. If so, get to the dealer.

Pull the belly pan, and start looking around underneath for that missing oil.
