just spoke w/ eBahn (maker of new Bentey S4 manual CD) and you need the CD in the computer to run it
also, they stressed that this is only for one computer. I wanted to copy the files from the CD onto my HD and change some files so that it would work, but the support guy said "it's made to have to use the CD". Was the last version like that?
Tech people, can you think of a way to install on multiple machines easily? Maybe create a WinINSTALL???

i told them that's what i wanted to do. "sorry". this CD sucks. I am very disappointed w/ this. not
worth $100. EVERYTHING is for A4s. I looked up "wheels" and no AVUS in sight. "foglights" and no picture of the S4 lower grill. terrible. Anyone else's opinions??

It can run without the CD
Copy the disk1 directory from the cd to say, a directory called c:\BentleyData
Modify the file called c:\BentleyPubs\eBahn/conf/resources_esis32.ini and change the line:
app.cd=D: (your CD drive letter)
to
app.cd=c:\BentleyData
you can then run without the CD.
The license key generated is bound to the signature of your install disk so running on more than 1 machine is disabled.

I have to agree I think it sucks.. I would rather have paper manuals than this thing
The navigation on it sucks
Having it require the CD in AND only work in one computer is assine, I want to read it on my big fast machine at work, and then take it out on the laptop to work on the car.
Did I mention again how much the navigation sucks....
I dont have one of the eariler version CDs but they must have been more useful as people said that the CD was better than whats on AllData, but the AllData demo page looks a whole hell of a lot better than the piece of junk Ive got in my computer right now.

try this:
I don't have the bentley cd so i dont know if this works myself, but:
Make a image file of the cd with Clone CD
http://www.elby.org/CloneCD/english/
Copy the Image file to whichever computer(s) you want to run the Bentley CD on
Install Daemon Tools (a CD-ROM drive emulator)
http://www.daemon-tools.com/
and use Daemon Tools to Mount the CloneCD image you created to pretend there is an actual CD-ROM in the emulated drive

Rob225 had great advice, thanks for the post.
