Default KO3's failed twice...and a third time?

2001 S4, APR Stage II, KO3's have failed twice and may be failing again. The second time, and now the third time they started to whine only one week after install (by dealer under warranty). How could they possibly start to fail so quickly? Help! Time for KO4's???

APR Chip? Driving to hard w/o warmup or cooldown? Bad TBB or BPV? Oil changes? etc..

Perhaps you have insifficent oil or coolant flow to the turbos/turbos. Which one,the same one each time?

I don't buy the lack of cooldown being the problem. That takes time to cause failure, and usually doen't happen as often with synthetic oil. The car has a coolant pump that will run after you shut the car down if it is hot enough to warrant it..

They replaced both, both times. I am running synthetic, always warm-up and allow cool down. Is it possible they are installing incorrectly in such a way that insufficient oil is flowing to the turbo(s)? It took 25K for the first set to fail (8K after upgrades). The recent failures started within a week or so of install.

Default Define "Warmup". I've been able to destroy K03's on demand (M)

with a chip by pushing 7+lbs of boost before 175 deg of oil temp. It only takes once and the siren is there.

Listen for the spool, avoid it ANYTIME the OIL temp is < 175. OIL is the key here, it takes a good extra 5-10 minutes after the engine temp is warm.

Default Zaphod had his replaced under warranty and the new ones whistled since day one, he's done

several thousand miles I believe without issue. NEPaNogaro is right too, i ran an APR chip for about two weeks and all it takes is a reasonable amout of boost without a full warmup and now they are loud as hell every morning, haven't had the chip in for 6k, they are a little quieter after warmup, but still there. what altitude are you at?

I keep at eye on the oil temp. and don't push it until it approaches 200 degrees. What's is actually occuring to cause the whining...it is much worse when started first thing in the AM.
