Default Leak found.

I changed the oil at 12K (early, but I could'nt help it) which is the first time for me since I got the car from the PO. Upon pulling the belly pan I noticed an oil stain...not much, but a definate leak. I investigated and it looks to be coming from the bell housing forward of the clutch and there is a light film on the underside of the center dif/trans. I'd assume a crank seal, but jeeze at only 12K??? Is that possible? She's due to go in to get the AC fixed and a few other things so I'll have them check it out. If it turns out to have to be replace, should I upgrade to a better clutch? Thank god for the warranty.

The car is TOTALLY stock at this point. No money for mods at this point.

TIA.

Default Right before picking up the car the PO had the dealer "fix" a leak

he did'nt mention where it was. "Upper sump"? Not familiar enough with the 2.7 to know where that is. Anyone have a Bently link to a pic?

Default Rear main seal on my old '01 Avant

Started at 200 mi - after the third try (with a revised seal) they fixed it.

Tranny comes out, if in fact this is your prob.

Default Sounds like a rear main seal, fairly common. Have Neil take care of it @ CW.

Shoot a picture, may help confirm.

Default We have a two piece oil pan.

The bottom of the oil pan is a flat piece called the lower sump. The vertical walls are formed by a separate piece called the upper sump. The lower sump bolts to the upper sump and that bolts to the block. Of course, either can leak.

Rear main seals leak, too. That's a bigger job to fix, though the upper sump repair requires dropping the subframe, IIRC. If they drop the subframe, pay attention to the wheel alignment afterwards.
