Is less really more?
I'm at the tail end (or is it tale end?) of deciding on the best car combination for me next year. I'm at the Boxster S + Audi allroad, or Boxster + new (B6) Audi S4 Avant. Then I have a good friend who asks (sensibly maybe) "Why not just get a Carrera 4S and be done with it?"
It's an intriguing thought: one car only (a fast Swiss Army Knife), against two cars that span multiple uses and road conditions. Which way would you go? One car or two? Is less really more? And which route really is less?

Well, the cars you list besides the Boxters are both wagons...
If you're in the market for a wagon, the C4S is certainly not going to fulfill all the roles the Boxster and the Allroad or Avant would. If I could, I'd go for the Boxster S and the Allroad.

two cars are better than one.
If you've got room for them, it's awfully nice having a spare car that you actually enjoy driving.
Or, for example, when your porsche is in the shop to get that new suspension, you can motor around in the avant and not feel like a dweeb, like you would in the escort rental car.
the other plus is, of course, you split your miles, and both vehicles retain value longer.
