Let me expand on the chip posts that have been posted today, should be informative. (long)
Several months ago, some people were in town from Audi HQ. I met them and talked with them several days. I asked one gentleman (I can't disclose his name), about chips. He said if I didn't know the mechanic very well, he wouldn't buy a chip under warranty because they can tell. He showed me how in a 3-4 page format in a book he had. It takes two mechanics. They have to take an onboard diagnostic while the car is running. Somehow it will print out rpm's, boost, speed (I do not remember everything) on a graph form. The picture shows stock graphs, and whatever changes means something has been done to the car. Also, we had a Ross-tech and he wanted to show me some things. We hooked it up to my car, and one code showed up. When he hooked his up, I had like 10 -12 codes. His Vag wasn't the floor model in most dealerships, it was portable about 2-3 times as big as a laptop. I would assume the OTS's have one of these. This is probably how they deny warranty claims. I have also seen this same thing happen to another car. The mechanic was using the Ross-Tech to look at a car. It showed 2 codes, but the floor model the dealership showed 6 codes. Their Vags can read more than anything else. They can read soft codes that OBD II general(reads hard codes only) won't read and Ross-Tech can't read. This is one of the three ways they can do it, now the other two I do not know. I hope this helps some. BTW, I am stock because of this information.

Before everyone gets in hysterics you looked at 1 module..
This is a readout of several thier version must poll all modules for DTC. The ones here with codes are Central locking, Climate, Gauge cluster and interior lights or light leveling, my german is way off lately..
