Long term, quality wins - and I hope Audi understands that
After having had one of the first B5 S4s in Germany, I made sure I got one of the very first here. And I did. So far no major issues, aside from the blown TBBs and all four rotors worn prematurely, and the seat frames (different from German version) and the stress cracked windshield, and the door and trunk seals. I do not do as much driving here as I had to do back in Germany, about 20k miles per year here, versus around 60000 km (40k miles) in Germany. Now I am really annoyed because I have the - let us say "quick windshield washer fluid dump modification". Looking at the reservoir and the pump really makes me very very annoyed: Jose Ignacio drove cost down when the B5 was in development at VW/Audi Germany. Yeah, he saved about $20 of cost on the new car. Guess why we have Valeo instead of Bosch headlights. They were a few cents cheaper, and I mean cheaper, not more cost efficient. But this overrated idiot at that time now makes us go through crap where cheap parts break - and after looking at these things they predictably have to break. Since I am out of warranty - as I said, I have one of the very first B5 S4s here - I have to pay the replacement part. But it could have broken earlier, and then Audi would have just postponed the expense. They would have lost all their presumed cost advantages with this little thing alone. Long term, they lose. I am glad they fired this guy. Because it is all the little things going wrong that are annoying. The big things do not brake too easily.
