Default looking at buying an s4, few questions inside

I'm looking at getting a 2.7t s4. Based on the few days I've been on the board, I'm assuming that the b5 platform is the turbo model, and the new one is the v8. What years where the s4's 2.7t out. Any particular year I should get?

More specific, what kind of turbos are they? How much boost do they run at from factory? And details on the bottom end of the motor (forged hopefully)? What kind of boost levels are people raising to and what kind of horsepower are they seeing?

Looking at getting one by the early part of next year.

thanks!!

Default Well...(m)

You'll probably get some people telling you to search the archives but I'll answer some of your questions just to be nice. Try to get a 2001.5-02 S4 (with the new badges). The 2.7T uses K03 turbos and run about 10-11 PSI stock. The tuning of this car is all over the place and people are seeing all kinds of different numbers. One thing is for sure they, the tuning is getting better and better.

Default motor specs and boost!

I didn't see anyone mentioned what the stock bottom end of the motor had. Any idea?

So tunning the car is best done by the revo technik tunning utility (i guess lemiwinks)? i read it doesnt add boost however. Will a standard boost controller do the trick?

ps: sorry to be a n00b on the board, ive been reading a crap load however.

Default stock bottom end is bulletproof

the weak drivetrain spots are:
tip tranny
6sp clutch
halfshaft

so don't get a tip, and if you plan on making tons of power, make sure to get an upgraded clutch.

the rest of your questions are better answered by searching the archives.

Default Re: stock bottom end is bulletproof

yea, i expected i would need to change that. i noticed people are upgrading to the RS4 clutch...

id like to get the car soon. hopefully with in a year get it to 450-500 hp by boosting it silly : P

halfshafts shouldn't have a problem unless your hooking your car off the line right? which ones don't hold, front, rear, or all?

appreciate all the help!!
