MAF unplug = no lag in tip transmission?

MAF unplug = no lag in tip transmission?
Upon removing the MAF sensor plug, the first thing I noticed was the removal of the 1 second lag (significant) between shifting from neutral to Drive. Before it seemed that the transmission had to "hunt" for the drive gear, sometimes even resulting in a horrible minor neutral drop from small pressure on the pedal...
Now the shift is almost instantaneous, which is also noticible when the car downshifts while slowing to a stop (crisper shifts)...
As a side note, the car seems to be idling and driving a little better, smoother....
My CEL light has been on... I am getting a VAG tool soon I hope....when i get the cash.. I'm so cal if anyone lives in orange county and wants to be a good samaratin
ANY IDEA WHAT THESE CHANGES INDICATE?
Thanks

Re: bad MAF if it's driving better with it unplugged?
Lol. Not necessarily better, but smoother idle and rougher (better IMO) shifts.
Is it safe to drive for a while without it plugged in?
Any use in upgrading to an rs4 MAF?
Thanks

it's OK to drive with it unplugged for a little while
typically you're going to be running on the rich sideeeeee though because it's trying to adjust using the o2 values.
No use in upgrading to the RS4 MAF unless you're doing turbos/injectors as well. For just a stock car, replace the sensor.

i ran like that for a day or two. that shift form N to D is odd, almost like their is a lot of
engine load right off the bat. perhaps the idling conditions are different. I did not like that at all. and why are you having pressure ont eh gas pedal during your neutral to drive shift?

Re: i ran like that for a day or two. that shift form N to D is odd, almost like their is a lot of
Pressure on the gas from thinking that the car was actually in drive. Usually happened when the car REALLY lagged a few times between N and D... I could have counted 2-3 mississippi's between the shift and feeling the gear engage.

agreed
My trans normally behaves like boxster described with his MAF unplugged. I have no odd N->D lag...or should I say HAD. As of right now I have no transmission at all. hah!
