Default Misfire on Cylinder 5 and Cylinder 2

Well driving around the city(SF) last night and then the Check Engine light came on.

Pulled out the VAG and recieved 3 codes, one was random mis fires and one for cyclinder 2 and one for cylinder 5 misfire.

I cleared the codes and for two days they have not come back.

I have 67,000 miles/6 speed/MTM stage1

Is it common to get misfires and have them go away?

What do you guys suggest I check first if they come back?

Plugs? CoilPacks? Anways, thanks for any feedback

How difficult is it to swap coilpacks?

Default Swapping coilpacks is easy.

If the misfires come back, I'd swap one out with a cylinder that isn't misfiring. If the misfire follows the coilpack... Super easy diagnostics.

Of course, If you haven't changed your plugs in a while...

Default If they come back, swap the coolant temp sensor.

When was the last time you changed the plugs?

And what is the condition of the vac hose on the fuel pressure regulator?

Default I have ZERO information on the history of your car.

So I can't really tell you what you need to do to fix it. I can tell you a new coil pack probably won't solve the problem as you have described it (and it may not necessarily be a problem, but you haven't quantified the problem very well either, so I'm not going to waste my time speculating).

Default Car runs rich with a faulty CTS.

Some people have observed random misfires under these circumstances, and a new CTS solved it. It's a $5 failure prone part and a 20 minute install.

Default I'll get the CTS and try Spark plugs, it's been 20k miles since the last

Spark plug change, I assume Spark plugs are fairly DIY on our cars? or r they?

Default The plugs shouldn't be too bad with only 20K on them.

Start with the CTS, and if that doesn't help, yank the plugs on 2 and 5 and evaluate their condition. If you think they are bad (post a picture of them here if you're unsure), order new plugs and install them. Most of them are easy to get to...1 or 2 are blocked requiring you to move a few things to get access.
