Default Mobil 1 (M1-204) Oil Filter Warning - All Audi applications for this filter have been revoked per

manf. due to inadequate thread reach issues. The nipple (threaded thing that filter screws onto) is too short (actually the threads on the filter's baseplate are too recessed) and there may not be enough contact to properly hold the filter to your car. If it falls off or leaks, you could suddenly loose oil pressure and/or most of your oil. In case you were wondering; this isn't good at all for your engine!

In case you saw my post re: this issue from yesterday, yes it is sort of a repost, but wanted people to see this if you might use this filter.

FYI, you could have just cross posted instead of re-typing everything.

I was considering that oil filter when I got the car... glad I've been sticking with Audi filters.

Default Every 3k with M1 is overkill, IMO.

Default I asked them about that and they told me to take any unused filters back to place where purchased.

They made no offer regarding filter in use (not the case for me regardless). The filter hotline phone # is: 800-882-0890. This doesn't seem like a recall or anything; just a de-listing of the application and they told me they do not have any filters for the S4 or ANY Audi/VW application at this time. Sounds like a big CYA thing to me!

Default Yes, I hear you. I have not yet used anything other than OEM filters on my S4 as well, although I

do my own oil changes as my dealer re-used the old filter one time when they worked on my car and I don't trust them anymore - so I "mark" the filter to insure they replace it at the Audi paid for oil changes. This warning was just a public service to warm those who might be using or considering using this filter. The M1 product is a good one (have used them before on non-VAG vehicles). Are they better than the Mann (OEM) filters? Who knows. That is matter of opinion - I know you can't go "wrong" using the Audi filter, some people may not want to pay the current price of $17 for the OEM model (although you can get the generic Mann filter in our size for $7 and change via Impex).
