Default Modified A4 vs. New S4

Someone just posted this to the "1point8t" mailing list....thought you guys would get a kick out of it. Personally, I have my doubts about this "race"...I think the S4 would walk away from a K-04'd, automatic 1.8T.

Hello Owdy-files.

Many of you have been lusting after the new S4 with its 2.7L twin turbo
charged 250hp motor. I've been looking at them as well and have wanted to
drive one to compare it to my hot rodded 1.8T A4. Both of the local (no. Va.)
dealers have declined my request for a test drive since all of their current
inventory is sold.

So instead I've been hunting for one on the streets to see if I could goad
him into a speed contest. Well, it didn't take long to find one. From
appearances it was one of the first to be delivered since it had regular tags
instead of 30 day temporary tags. My guess is that the car has been "broken
in". The driver was 30 ish and had sidled up next to my box stock looking A4
with 1.8T badges proudly displayed. The only external tip-off that my car
isn't as it left the factory are the twin Brullen chrome tips.

(For those that don't know me, my car has: K04 turbo, Ram-air filtration,
Garrett chips and the Brullen big bore exhaust, auto tranny with Front Trak
only.)

The S4 driver sought to impress me by pulling up next to me at a stoplight
and briskly revving his motor. I sat calmly in my car with the tranny engaged
in "D" listening to the afternoon stock reports. Light turns green and off he
goes. I let him get 6 or 7 car lengths on me, then I floor it. I get
immediate wheelspin from 30 mph and then he and I sprint up to a very illegal
speed on an open highway.

Long story short, I regained the handicap I let him have off the line, and I
believe I would have passed him if we both hadn't seen the telltale blue
glint off of a State Troopers' lights as he came up the entrance ramp. Both
of us threw out the anchors and hauled back to a speed over the posted limit
but within the range of tolerance for Mr. Trooper.

At very high boost and rpm's I had slight pinging that was from a little fuel
starvation. I plan to cure this with a higher pressure fuel regulator in the
near future. As he pulled off I got no wave of recognition for any fun. I
guess he didn't like having his new car challenged by a gray haired older
fellow in a vanilla A4. He-he-he.

For the sake of comparison, the new S4 is roughly $41,400 MSRP with most of
the goodies. My 1997 A4 cost $21,000 on the used car lot, plus about $3500
for all the other fun bits n' pieces. I guess I'll wait until a few S4's show
up on the used car market, let somebody else take the depreciation hit, buy
one at a reasonable price then see where it goes from there.

I can't find the guys post, I live in NOVA and i'll track the looser down and show him how fast the S4 really is.

Even with chip and exhaust and turbo he is only pushing 220-230 maybe, and yes his car is lighter but it's still an automatic.

Do you know what the title of his post was??

DonP had a K04'd 1.8T (manual) and it was no comparison to his new S4

Default Meanwhile..here's the story the other guy is probably telling

</i>You ever notice how too people can experience the same event, yet have wildly different recollections of what happened? I bet the S4 driver remembers this encounter something like this...<i>

As you all know I recently took delivery of a new S4. Several of you have emailed me asking how fast it was, perhaps this story will give you an idea.

The other day while doing a little gentle break in driving, I pulled up to a light next to an A4. I could see the A4 driver checking out my car and it was more than obvious that he wanted to see what the S4 had.

As I mentioned, I was still breaking in the new engine, but figured at the very least I could keep even with him – even without driving the S4 hard, so I rev’ed the engine a couple times to let him know I was game and waited for the light to turn green.

Long story short, light turns green I give it a good bit of throttle and leave him 6-7 car lengths back before he even knew what happened. Point proven, I ease off the gas and let him catch up. I think he thought we were still racing, but really after getting dropped like a bad habit, what’s the point? Can you imagine what this car will do once I’m able to drive it full out? All this power and luxury too - Amazing!

I had a KO4 1.8t manual. AC's version is more likely. With a automatic? The K04 guy is dreaming

If I just blew $42k I guess I'd have to prove to everyone how great I am.
