Ask them to explain how a "cat-back" exhaust affects the emissions in any way whatsoever

Default I stand corrected.. I found this....

While the exhausts that are exempted are ones that are AFTER the cat and O2 sensor, they still need to be reviewed, but do not need a full CARB review. They are called OE's.

Go to the link, then look in the pull down for exhausts.<ul><li><a href="http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermkt/devices/devices.htm">http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermkt/devices/devices.htm</a</li></ul>

Default While it may not, California still has a review for formality..

Default Thanks, but the EPA document I cited specifically lists the exhaust *system* as a covered component

Look under the list of components; they do list the entire exhaust system.<ul><li><a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/s4/msgs/383045.phtml">Here's the document in its entirety</a></li></ul>

Default You are correct Sir. I posted below the link to the carb site too...

They provide a methodology to "excempt" an aftermarket system, but it seems few are doing it, as it's car specific.

I did ask that question. Their answer - different back pressure from an aftermarket system could affect other systems, such as the cats and oxy sensors, etc. What do you think of that?

The most restrictive is the stock system.

Default IMO the issue is that they said that only "parts" of the emission system warranty is voided and

that is a decision the dealer made arbitrarily. Check all the things the emissions warranty covers. It basically gets them off the hook on turbo failure, exhaust manifold leaks or cracks, DV valve failures etc. That's just wrong. They can only really void the warranty on the exhaust system itself.
