multi function display error

multi function display error
Hi all,
I posted a few questions further down the thread on a used S4 im looking to buy.
Here is a problem. The display between the tach and speedo dosnt completely work. I can see that it switches between options when using the stalk buttons and it does kinda display a warning light for fuel and washer fluid. The Abs light is on and the brake light is on/flickers. The brakes seem to work fine and there IS almost no fuel left in the car as well as washer fluid.
The screen displays as if it were out of tune like a badly tuned TV channel. tach speedo odo all else works great.
Is this bad? Costly to fix? How can I see if everything works fine electronically??
