My 1-month impression with the AMS chip . . . (+)(long)
First, from what I learned, AMS is the sole U.S. importer for ABT. Marc at AMS enhanced the ABT chip for the U.S. market.
Cruising:
The chip is very smooth throughout the power range. I noticed that it is easier to drive when cruising; according to my boost gauge with the chip, the needle will be between -5 in. hg (vacuum) to 2 psi of boost when cruising. With the stock ECU, the gauge would mainly be in the vacuum area and move into the boost with slightly more aggressive driving; so, the chip probably changed, among other things, the throttle positioning too which overall makes it more fun and easier to drive.
Aggressive driving:
The difference is amazing, similar to when I first got the S4 after selling my old Prelude. I had to get "use" to the power again. With the chip, at about 2,500 rpm, the car will send you back into your seat and pull your passenger's head back. Gotta love the 370-375 ft lbs of torque. Peak boost is about 16 psi with an every now-and-then spike to 18.25 psi.
I believe stock boost is about 9.5 or 10 psi. So I experimented and drove around, staying under 10 psi. Not exceeding 10 psi with the chip required about half-throttle inputs. This driving still felt faster compared to stock and the car was more lively.
Overall, I like the chip.
Note: I am not affiliated with AMS or ABT; I just posted to provide my insight.
