i know these car washes are not the best for our cars, but my car is madd dirty and its just too freakin cold here in chicago to wash it myself.
should i take it to a "turtle wax" car wash here? i have snow wheels/tires do i dont care if those get scratched up and whatnot....
any comments? i cant stand looking at my car when its this damn dirty....

I use the high-pressure wash to get the major grime off, so it doesn't scratch the p!ss out of...
the paint/clear coat. Then I brave the cold and hand wash the car w/ WARM soapy water.

Unfortunately, something they use on the roads here in the winter...
turns into a gooey sticky mess... Whatever the subsitute they used for salt on the roads was when I lived in Revere, it combined with the salt air left residue on the paint that touchless car washes wouldn't get off.
Glad I've got a garage this winter!

Would avoid anything but a high pressure self-serve wash in winter
I'm even afraid of "touchless" washes - the dryers can scratch the hell out of the finish.

Unfortunately, there are only two ways to clean a car well...
agitation (mitt and soapy water), or chemicals (nasty chemicals). The later (touchless car washes) will eat away at the wax on your paint as well. If you've got little to no wax left, that leaves your precious clearcoat.

No wash is better than a poor wash.
Granted, it's hard to see swirl marks in silver...but still, my rule of thumb is to leave it be, if I can't give it a proper wash. No car washes, or dealer washes for me.
