Default My timing and/or fan belt squeeks.

I have a 2000 s4 and either my timing belt or fan belt is squeeking. i have 43,000 miles on it so it may be time to replace it. Is this an easy project to fix or not.

I doubt your timing belt is squeeking. If it is - you're in big trouble.

Default The belt squeals constantly? That's odd, most will go away with engine revs. Are you sure it's not

waterpump bearings? Might want to have a mechanic check the sound - it's hard to diagnose over the intarweb.

I agree it's hard to tell. But it is louder under accelleration and quiets when clutch is in and under neutral gearing. Still sound like the pump maybe, not the belts?

Default I had a vr6 gti with same symptoms.....

and it was the tensionar pulley. The bearings in the pulley go bad and start squeeking.
