Default NASA.... I need some help in the mind set of a race or a good driver...

A few post down you talked about me not driving fast but also being a track guy is good. I thank you but I also starting to think I've very wired for doing so. Everybody here seems to get a boner for having a chip because of the added hp and the push behind the back, yet I'm in the process of selling my chip because I don't enjoy it. I notice the added hp yet I don't think I needed it nor do I care having yet. All my friends are after more hp, yet I only care about tires. That makes me a odd guy when talking about cars with friends.

As for driving.. I'm kind of wired. I don't get excited via hi-speed or fast acceleration... reall not at all!! Thats why I drive 65-70 on high-ways.

What I do enjoy is the feeling of knowing I've the ability to push the car to its limit in a corner, and not going over that limit and spin-out. Thats why I could care-less what kind of car I drive on the track and how much mod I've, because to me a more powerful car isn't more fun.

So Pete.. am i crazy? Should I quite racing because I lack the need for speed? Do I need "race viagra?"

Default a friend has a S13 with SR20DET in there..

Very hard coilover.. and other crazy stuff.. he brought it off some serious rice guy(one of those who show up on the cover or rice mags). The thing drove like a toy... small steering wheel, very harsh ride, too much power for the car and the tires. I worrie for him driving that thing on the track for his 1st time. Too much power and the way its tuned.. its not good for beginner..

Default Which coilovers?

Right now we are trying to figure out what we want to do with the suspension... since it's a track-only car comfort is not an issue.

We're currently considering Zeal B6, Tein RA, JIC FLT-A2, or GAB Rev R...

btw, I knopw what you mean about having a beginner with a car they can't handle at the track... some punk kid wrecked his first time out in a heavily modified E30 M3.. very sad.

Default Sorry know nothing about this car...

I'd check with the 240 board if I were you. Out of all the names GAB jumps out because its a very good one on the ae86. Don't get something thats too hard... if its too hard on the track like buttonwillow which isn't smooth you'll actully loose traction. Not all tracks are created equal. Laguna is smooth like a baby's butt.. but buttonwillow is a small track, and they don't repave.. they just patch up pot-holes.

Default Dont bash Boners for Chips.

Hey,
Going fast is great fun for some,
I dont mind the extra power, espesialy when exiting a turn. And its great to eat a BMW once here and there.

My self im mostly into canyon drives, and great turns. I wish i could spend all day learning how to make the car dance through corners. Smooth in fast out, no shakes or tire noise.

My latest upgrade, has been a set of 17x9 inch forged wheels. (click my sig for details). The tires are Contisport 255 / 40 /17's. My next tire will be a 245 / 40 /17 S0-3. Im waiting for their debute (summer). My next upgrade will be a set of spring shocks, (dont get me into why coilovers are a waist for most people). And thats it.

If I go lower right now, my tires will eat my fenders. they are rolled.

But Accel is a great factor in the equation for performance. It might the the biggest one since you win the race in the straight aways.
(right NASA? )

so dont bash chips. Boost is a turn on.

Any good driving schools in socal ??
can I take my car?

Default Interesting. I am also more concerned with safe driving, but for me, HP adds safety.

Gives me "forward" options for getting out of bad situations, where with lower HP, I was once rear-ended on the interstate at speed when a trucker changed lanes and came barreling down my lane, with me blocked on both sides, and the old 62 Chevy Station Wagon (Avant? ;-) ) did not have any acceleration left to get out of the way!

BTW, I pulled off the road, but the trucker kept on trucking! Really messed up the rear door.
