Default Need help please! Surging idle after TBB and BPV change...

Scott and I put in 710Ns and my AMS TBB this afternoon. Everything is tight--hoses and clamps. When I start her up, the idle is surging. The ABS, CEL, ESP light (the yellow triangle) are all on. Unfortunately, we're not at our place or we could hook up the VAG. We took all this out, and returned the BPVs and TBB to stock. Still the same idle problem.

Any thoughts on what to check? Very frustrating...

Default Did you replace the little vac hoses going to the BPVs?

Stockers might be damaged/leaking/not sealing well.

Default Update: Unhooked the battery to reset the ECU...

stable idle now...didn't change anything since the last message other than unhooking the battery.

If all of the hoses weren't tight the first time we started it, and the ECU detected a problem, could it have "remembered" the problem, even after we fixed the leak? We did change all the vacuum hoses after the initial problem, and retightened all the hose clamps (and put all the OEM parts back on), but still had the problems.

Any thoughts?

Maybe idle air control was confused? When in doubt, reboot the system;-)

Default Probably needed a TBA...

did you unhook any electrical connectors to the throttle body?

Default sounds like the problem was with your throttle body possibly.

Did you unplug that during the install? If so you should always perform a manual (or automatic with VAG-COM) adaptation. Otherwise you'll get weird problems like that.

Default Only ones we unhooked were the 2 on top of the TBB...which we've done before with no issues.

Thanks for the response though. The drive home was fine, but we'll double-double check everything tomorrow. It's dark and 32 degrees out!

Default Sounds like what happened to me when...

I switched BPVs and started the car without plugging the throttle body sensor back in. After I fixed it, the car still had the same wacky idle behavior, till I cleared the codes with a VAG. Unplugging the battery might have performed the same thing...
