Default New father - S4 OR A6 2.7T

New father on the way in a couple of months.
I'm thinking of an s4, however I am concerned
about space. Since I have never been a dad before
I am unsure what to expect.
Most importantly, I love to drive. I'm not prepared to purchase a ''practical'' car just yet, or ever for that matter.

Any advice.

Default 2 kids fit fine, if it is the family's only car....(m)

Then you will want something with more room. We have a minivan (I know, I know) but they are have a ton of space and are amazingly practical.

Congratulations on the new baby!

I had the same decision to make about the car.

You can still get the S4 and it will fit your baby seat. I have two little ones, 2 years old and 6 months old- and the eventual possibility of a third- so before I plunked my money down on the S4 I checked to see if three car seats would fit back there. Width wise it's not much more snug than my '94 Audi 100, but there will be less leg room for the little guys. But by the time their legs are long enough they'll be out of their car seats and sitting in the proper back seat where there is plenty of leg room for a child.

The trunk will hold all your diaper bags, portacrib, toys, and all the other paraphenalia you'll get used to lugging around. Luckily my wife has the big family vehicle, so the S4 will see minimal kid duty.

I drove the A6 2.7T and it just didn't thrill me like the S4.

Good luck!

Default Congratulations! We just had our first three weeks ago, a little girl. My wife has a ...

'99 A6 Avant that we use as the main baby mobile although I have put an additional base for the infant car seat in my S4. I havn't used it yet, I'm too chicken to go very far without mom in the car anyway.

Good luck with the baby and the car.

Default 3 kids in S4tt or S6 Avant

I have three kids, 10, 7 and 4, the youngest still in a car seat. All 5 of us fit in the S4 for local hops quite comfortably. Ski trips, or trips to visit the outlaws, are taken in the 95.5 S6 Avant, usually with a Thule coffin on the roof. The S6 Avant has the kid condo in the way back, which goes a long way to eliminate skin contact between kids (the first indicator to a major police action between the kids).

I would say go for the S4tt, and add the new S6 Avant when more kids arrive. That way you can avoid the mommyvan.

Default Congratulations on being a new Dad...

I became a father 4 months ago and ordered an S4 two months later. There's plenty of room back there for my son's things. I also have a Volvo S70 "family hauler" so that made the decision even easier...<p>'01 Santorin/Silver - 6spd

Congratulations on your soon to be fatherhood.

I've got two daughters, ages 3 & 5 and both myself & my wife have refused to go the minivan or SUV route. We currently have a brand new S4 and a 99 A6 Avant that is the primary family hauler on longer trips. When my daughters were born, we had a 95 90 Quattro & a 89 200 Quattro wagon, which were overall comparable sizes to our current cars. (But, nowhere near the performance). We had no trouble packing portacribs, strollers and all the miscellaneous items you need when you have a new little one. Instead of throwing your whole house in a minivan, you learn to economize and take only what you really need. Believe me, it can be done. If you don't have a wagon and I would highly recommend it before a minivan or SUV, the S4 should be fine to carry what you need for only 1 kid. If it doesn't all fit in the trunk, you still have half the back seat to put stuff in. I don't want a 'practical car' either, because I enjoy driving our 'inpratical cars' way too much. Hope this helps.

Default I am a dad with a slightly taller than average 6 yrd old.....(more)

.......and I went ahead and ordered an S4 anyway. Your child will be in an infant carrier/car seat for some time, so rear leg room is a non-issue til s/he becomes a teenager. By this time, you will probably be driving something else or your wife's car will be somewhat more practical. If you work hard, get yourself what YOU want, you earned it.......<p>"Next time your flight lands safely, thank an air traffic controller...."
