Default A new perspective on the "perfect exhaust" debate - Sophistication

Seems like the comparisons of exhaust we see here only question the loudness of the system.

Being that we own somewhat sophisticated machines, I'm curious on your impressions of which exhaust gives the most refined sound. The question is more focused on the quality of the tone rather than the quantity of noise made.

Let me get you guys started with an example:
The new 350Z and it's Infiniti cousin both share a sophisticated, yet subdued, exhaust tone. Love this sound. A exhaust note of late model Ferrari has an air of sophistication, yet is quite substantially louder. Love this sound (more).

On the other side of the coin, I would say ricers, flowmasters, and the like sound a bit crude and wouldn't incredibly like that sound coming out of an Audi.

So, irrespective of volume, what system really sounds first class? I would imagine the milltek fits this bill, being that it is quite popular despite its near-stock noise level.

Thoughts?

Default ummm - the 350z does *not* have a sophisticated sound

I don't think I've ever heard a stock exhaust that sounds as terrible.

It sounds like a muffled fart can.

Everytime I hear one I wince.

ugh.

Default Yep, it sounds fake. My dad has a G35C, and when he visited me and rode in my S4 with Neuspeed G2...

his words were, "Why doesn't mine sound like this?" He describes his exhaust as "fake sounding" now thanks to me

It just doesn't have the roar or feeling that my exhaust gives me.
