New Tires, Bulbs and thoughts.
Hiya Audiheads
Just wanted to give you an update. Finally got the Yok AVS Sport 235/45 R17's installed. The tire size is perfect. I can see how a 235/40 would work as well, the AVS Sports "appear" to have a higher sidewall than the Pirelli P7000SS or the Bridge 040's. They look huge in the car, IMO. I like it. The wider width make the car look like a pissed off pit bull compared to the 225's.
As for tire performance, since they are brand new, I didnt have a chance to really push the envelope. However, I liked the dry and wet grip more than the Bridge040's. I am sure the 45's flex a wee bit more than the 40's but this is a great height if you live in an urban area. The AVS Sports absorbed some nice pothole's without problems. I remember with the Bridgestones is sounded like I was hitting the rim with every pothole. All in all I like the tires and the money was worth it. I am sure I will love them even more when the sun comes out and the pavement gets nice and hot. Had to bogey up to Rhode Island for the day and the tires did well at 100MPH in wet and dry through CT
Also, put in the Solaris H7's in the fog lights. You guys were right. What a difference. Not only does it look better by matching the xenons, but they really light up the sides and low immediate area in front of the car. Installation was a snap. Just yank off the fog covers (they are held in place with plastic tabs), Unscrew 3 philips, unclip power cord, twist housing off from bulb casing. Pull of bulb, replace bulb, wash, rinse reverse repeat.
Threw in some high octane gas boost and I did see an improvement in the way the car pulls. However, I did note that cars I "used" to beat seem to close the gap now. I am wondering if there is a problem with my Throttle Boot. Is there anyway to diagnose the problem without using a VAG tool or pulling off the throttle boot? I dont have any surges or audible noise. The car just seems a little slower than it used to be. The turbo sounds nominal and there is not any excess air being sucked under the hood.
Cheers

Don't yank the intercooler covers off!
use a screwdriver, and release the springy catches on the side nearest the center of the car!
Yanking will work, but will wear those catches, and eventually break something!<p>Jim De Arras
