NO Power, shuddering at idle, shuddering on acceleration flashing engine light
All these things happened to me on my way home from the cottage tonight. First instance I was driving quite rapidly on the last stretch of highway before my exit (traffic was light and I wasn't going that fast 75mph) car in front of me slowed, I braked and downshifted to 3rd with 3000 rpm showing on the tach. Went to accelerate again and all the engine did was shudder and vibrate (as if it was about to stall) engine light came on flashing. I nursed the car off the highway and to my dealer (close by) all the while the car shuddered under accel, and had a very bad idle. Also a faint gas smell coming from the engine. The engine light stopped flashing and went off alltogether.

Re: could be any number of things....
I was thinking 1 and/or 2 from your list. It is dark so I really couldn't check 3 & 4. Tho didn't think a torn tbb would cause this type of issue.
My car is a CPO car so it's the dealer's problem. I don't have a VAG-tool but it is next on my list.
THanks,

Don't have a VAG-Tool (Will get one soon)
My dealer will scan the car, I will ask them for a printout of the codes. Since it is CPO car I am not worried about it as the repair is paid for, just wanted to figure out what happened. Snce two second earlier the car was running perfectly.

At this point codes don't matter :(
I bought my car CPO about 2 months ago.
What has happened is that the No.2 spark plug was cross threaded, it was forced back up through the cylinder head breaking the ignition coil in the process. The head needs to be removed and re-tapped with new threads. Coil needs to be replaced. The big issue is that the electrode on the plug is missing, and my service advisor can't guess as to what has happened to it.
Worst of all, I am told this is not covered under my CPO warranty.
The fight begins and there will be more to come.

How many miles on the car? Any recent work on it?
Glad you took it by the dealer. The codes would certainly be required to diagnose the issue. Paul had some very good starting points, but I'd also check to see if the engine moved or shifted. Engine mount?
Good luck.
Good luck.
