noob question of the day: how would one know if their springs/shocks need to be replaced?
Barring any extreme event that would cause a sudden failure, over time, the parts would gradually wear out. So, how would you know if they needed to be replaced or not?
Reason I ask is, coming up on the magical 50k, and making a list of all the stuff to bring up for the final service appointment. It may just be my imagination, but I think she's been getting a bit bouncier/floatier lately, but like I said, it may just be me.

The bounce test is the way to go...
Push down on the car repeatedly to get it bouncing. When you let go, it should return to the normal height and stop moving within the one half-cycle. If it bounces several times before it stops, the shocks are shot. Be careful where you press, you don't want to dent the fender or hood.
I don't think you can test the springs, except to see that the car is not sitting level because they are sagging.
