Default Is it normal to need to crank the engine a few times to start it?...my car has always had this

If I put the key in, turn power on and crank it, it does nothing maybe two or three times then sometimes it trys to turn over but cant and other times it starts right up. No difference going from batteries either, using an optima orange top now.Any ideas?

Default i am having the same problem, I will find out on monday which sensor went bad,

I was told a sensor or an control unit went bad! hang tight, I will have the exact part by monday afternoon or tuesday.

I was also told that particular part was back order and mine had to be ship from back east!

Probably, sounds like one, maybe the A4 board would have more examples?

Default I had similar experience...

Stock ECU - fires fine
Brand A chip - would fire after 2nd or 3rd crank
Brand B chip - fires fine

Problem only occurred when the car was cold. The coolant temp sensor was changed twice and the problem persisted. Car started fine when warm. There were no codes.

Theory was that Brand A (don't want to start a flame war) interacted differently with some sensor. Was never able to identify the culprit and went with another chip. I believe it was software related, but chip maker insists that same chip/code works in other cars w/same box.

I'm very interested in your findings.

Default had a similar problem. but it wouldn't even start.

I think it was related to a Temp Sensor I had replaced. Using the VAG it was code: 17704.

Not sure if that helps, but I'd get a CEL along with it.
