Default Obese tie-rods. The horror!

<center><img src="http://gallery.rennlist.com/albums/album514/AudiS4_5321a.jpg"></center><p>
The photo shows the stock 2000 Audi tie-rod at the bottom, the middle is probably Febi-Belstein and the top is Meylar.

Stock: 350g
Febi-Belstein: 610g
Meylar: 705g

Two replacement tie-rods increase the unsprung weight by 520g or 710g (1.1 lbs and 1.6 lbs.). That's an incredible increase in unsprung weight from just two freekin tie-rod ends!

I was originally going to replace both outer tie-rod ends. But now I am just going to replace the one that is bad and see if I can find a better alternative for the summer.

Does anyone know of any light or lighter weight tie-rod ends?

Also, anyone know of any tie-rod ends with longer shafts to reduce bump-steer on lowered cars?

Default Can you still get the smaller ones? I was under the impression that Audi modified the design.

These are obviously original 2000. Of course, I had to use heat to get them off.

They also look like they have some sort of damping material built in to them. Probably a good idea if you don't want to spill your coffee but not for a performance car. :-/

Default I don't know. I haven't started looking yet(62K mi) but I'll likely have to do this in the next 10K

mi or so. I sure hope you can get them... thats completely crazy unless it offers better steering feel or other wanted effect.

My 2001.5s look like your stockers.

Default On my car, the one that had failed had a ripped seal...

The other feels good with 152,000 miles on it.

Tie Rod Ends

Where Does This Part Go?
This part will replace your stock tie rod ends.

What is this parts function?
Gives you the ability to adjust the bump steer on your car.

How does this part work?
With more adjustment than you will get with your stock tie ends, you will now have control over bump steer; a problem that plagues lowered Audis and VW Passats.

What is this part made of?
The custom shafts and bolts that are inserted into the steering upright are made from 4340 Cromoly for extra strength and electroless nickel plated for corrosion resistance.
We use Aurora rod ends, which are also made from alloy steel, heat treated, and protective coated for corrosion resistance or you can opt for the Stainless Steel rod ends made from 17-4 PH stainless, a must if you live in an area where it snows or if you travel to the snow. Both rod ends have a permanently bonded PTFE lined inner race, this means the rod ends are self-lubricating which means a longer lasting product. The best part of all, every part CPP makes can be fully rebuilt, unlike factory products.<ul><li><a href="http://customperf.com/s4.htm#">http://customperf.com/s4.htm#</a</li></ul>
