Oil again. The more I look, the worse M1 0w30 looks
Given these ACEA grades:
A1 Fuel Economy Petrol
A2 Standard performance level
A3 High performance and / or extended drain
and that M1 0w30 is A1, while M1 0w40 is A3....
Should an oil designed and marketed as a fuel efficient formula be put in an engine like the 2.7T?
Just a random thought.

Hence, why I used 0w30 ONCE and ONCE only...
...my last 3-4 oil changes have all been 0w40 -- I'd argue that anyone that ever sees 240 degrees on their oil temperature gauge needs high performance motor oil.

No. Although I can't recall exactly what the 0w30 container says, I do recall comparing the "old"
Tri-Syn formula vs. the new SuperSyn formula and the ratings or ACEA application data was the same...The only Mobil 1 oil I found that would meet our engine specs is either the 0w40 or the 15w50 (but I wouldn't recommend using that weight unless I lived in SoCal or hotter climate). I use M1 0w40 exclusively, FWIW.

What I'm trying to say is that...
on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the ideal lubricant for your engine/conditions, dino might be a 3, and 30 weight might be an 8, and 40 weight a 9.
Now try driving your new S home 800 miles, to find a low oil light on in eastern Indiana. You finally pull off to a rest area in western Ohio to find all they have is various weights of dino, NO synthetic. :-( One quart of Sunoco 10W40 dino was the best I could do! I would have happily dumped in M1 0W30 if I could find it (btw, there is NOTHING is northeastern IN or northwestern OH!!). Now, granted, it isn't the end of the world...afterall, oil is better than no oil! :-)
