Default Oil Filter Heat Sink? Is this "Welcome to last year" info?

Anybody care to elaborate if these heat sinks for oil filters will actually decrease the ambient operating temperature of oil?

Thanks!

Default I guess this is where my PC and Overclocking Expertise ... (m)

comes in handy. Two things about Heatsinks.

1. They need to be on very tight and mated to the surface you want to conduct heat away from with little or no gaps or air between the surfaces. An effective heatsink will be lapped down to an almost perfectly flat surface (in this case curved surface). I highly doubt this heatsink will actaully be all that good at conducting heat away from the filter.

2. If you do want to try it. Use some themal transfer compound (or grease -- like Artic Alumina) to try to create a gapless joint between the two surfaces.

My bet is the heatsink will fit and work like crap. Looks like a gimmick to me.

Default Looks aluminum because of the color anodizing. I pulled it off a BMW site or something...
