Default Oil ?: I know a lot of people use Castrol Syntec 0w-30 (made in Germany one), but why isn't it on

the latest Audi Approved Oil chart? M1 0w40 and 5w-40 are on it, as is the Syntec 5w-40 that is generally considered to be inferior to the 0w-30 GC variety. Just curious why it doesn't have the VW 502.00 approval (or if it does, why isn't it on the list? Castrol does not list the VW 502.00 approval on their website/data sheet for Syntec oils, but it does list the MB and BMW approvals. Any thoughts?

Default

Doesn't meet the viscosity requirements. VAG is now only accepting 5w30, 5w40, and 0w40 502.00 oils

Default Yet, many people "swear" by the GC 0w-30 and claim it holds up better than the M1 0w-40 based upon

oil analysis. I guess my point is that perhaps the GC 0w-30 isn't all that its cracked up to be (no refining pun intended...). Of course, since most B5 S4's are out of warranty, it doesn't matter what oil you use, but still I am curious why it meets the ACEA A3 requirements but not the 502.00 - the simple answer is too low viscosity. Just seems a bit odd to me as per the owner's manual, the car was filled with 0w-30 at the factory, and it was presumably Castrol Syntec oil.

Default Oops - I screwed up. The 0w-30 GC meets VW 502 00 standards per the Castrol website (data sheet for

the 0w-30 Syntec grade). Damn, I'm getting old - didn't seee it on the screen but noticed it when I printed out the spec sheet...now I really wonder why it isn't on the latest list.

Audi Updated Oil List pdf

Default Interesting...

I found the same thing vis-a-vis Porsche's approved list.

Castrol 0W-30 is not on that list yet Castrol claims approval on their packaging.

Before I used it I was actually going to ask Castrol directly about this.
