Default Oil type and a bit of envy

A friend brought his spiffy new M5 over today. After a ride in the beast I was poking around under the hood... ooooowwh, dry sump lubrication and a curious sticker instructing that only Castrol S 10w-60 (yes, sixty) oil may be used in the engine.

10w-60 engine oil? I've never heard of such a blend... anyone else? Couldn't find it on Castrol's site. The proud owner said somone told him the oil was $14 per quart.

He could sense the envy in my gaze as I looked over his car then he brough up that a chipped S4 has just as much torque as the M5. BMW site says it has 500Nm (368 lb-ft). Very impressive car.

A little slim on Audi content yes, but Audi or not you gotta respect 400hp!
donp - '00 S4 Silver/Silver

Default I would be interested to see a comparison between a chipped S4 and a stock M5

... especially in the rain!

Default Castrol RS is about $14-15 a quart. Very hard to find. Amazing oil.

I used to use it in my '95 GTI VR6. Got too expensive, 6.5 qts for the VR6, plus the filter close to $100 each oil change. However, once you tried it, it is very hard to go back to regular synth of Mobil or Castrol, if you can call Mobil regular.
This oil can actually give your butt-dyno something to write home about. Could be just the cost, hallucinating after coughing up that much dough for an oil change. Temp definitely stay lower than with regular Mobil though.
I still got some in my garage, about 18 qts or so. I wonder if they have an expiration date, kind of saving them for that special occasion...;P

Default Hat's off to the M5.....big time. 400hp.....wow......

It's one of those cars that i drool over when on the road...and the M5 owners know it too...they just smile back......

But hey! for 5-800 dollars, we chip owners have around the same torque as those boys and we've got quattro!
-Cheng Kwan
