OK, is AOA asking for VIN numbers for those who are purchasing spare ecus?
I called Cliar Parts this morning to get pricing and availability on a ECU revison (L) and a TCU (spare tranny chip). Told the guy I on the phone what I wanted and he insisted that I given him the cars VIN number, saying something about how they need it to get the exact ECU, I already told the guy what ECU it was, so what gives? Are they trying to spy for AoA? I thought that there is only one revision for the TCU, am I wrong?

Core charge would be too restrictive per Federal laws....
They may CHARGE more if there is no core to return, but cannot restrict purchase. A situation with a stolen ECU would be an example. Nothing to return.
Requiring a VIN would on the other hand not violate the laws.
The laws govern an automotive company's responsibility to have available to the public replacement parts for a predetermined period of time, during and after a production car is available for purchase.
