Default Ok.. I have this vibration that is really starting to concern me -

Its not like the kind you get from a bent rim or bad bearings because its not coming from the steering wheel. You feel it from the middle of the car.. kind of from the engine area.. and hear a bit of a muffled whirrring sound along with it. It often occurs above 4000 rpm and very noticable on the highway in 5th or 6th. But if I run it pretty hard like that then I will feel it in the lower gears pretty well as well. Strangest thing is that once the car cools down it stops occuring in the lower gears.

I could always recreate it regularly though in 5th and 6th going above 4k. It progressively gets more noticable approaching those rpms and worse and worse beyond.

The only thing I do know about my car is that I definitely have 1 shot engine mount. I haven't heard of anyone with bad engine mounts mention this sort of issue though. Plus, the fact that this comes and goes as I run the car hard then go easy on it is pretty odd as well.

Any takers on this one?

Default Eeeeh... engine mount maybe?

If the engine mount is broken then it will allow the engine to move and possibly transfer vibrations directly to the chassis. If you know that you've got bad engine mounts (when one goes the other follows) then replace them and then test it out to see what you've got. Doesn't make a lot of sense to be trying to diagnose problems when you already have known issues.

Ifyou have a bad engine mount, why are you: a) wondering what the problem is and b) running "hard"?

Well, I've researched people posting about bad engine mounts and I've NEVER read about anyone claiming they had these sort of vibrations.

I'm simply mentioning when it happens. I don't go out and run the car hard every day.

I have 2 spare RS4 Avon B5 Motor mounts.. I ordered 2 of them for my car, but they were sold in Sets so I got 2 sets of them.. I was going to send them back but I only paid $169 for the pair, cheapest I have seen is over $200.. Let me know if you want them.. I have over 2000+ comments on Ebay..
