Default passenger footwell flood problem corrected on newer models?

Hi all,
Just getting set to buy my S4. I have a flood on my A4 (98.5) where the passenger footwell flooded. Car had to be striped/cleaned etc. A real pain!! I'm allergic to Mold, so it's really a problem for me. Dealer told me that if the car get's debris (leaf's etc.) in the AC vents it can cause this type of leak - They instructed me to clean leafs regularly.

Has this problem been corrected in the newer cars?

Anyone else had this problem?

Thx

Default wow, that would REALLY be a problem on a tip S4/A4...

the tiptronic ECU is under the passenger’s side carpet and is NOT in a plastic box (like the engine ECU) so is only as water resistant as the metal cover. Gonna add checking for debris to inspecting the TBB!

Default Hmm, this happened to a friend recently and the overflow (blockage) was caused by foam overspray (m)

Or something like that, i'll get details from her..

Default 999% of the time this is caused by a clogged evaporator hose...

Which drains moisture from the A/C condenser. If the tube is clogged, water backs up and flows out the next opening, which is the cover into the passenger footwell.

The hose usually gets clogged from leaves/dirt/debris working in from the fresh air intake (in front of the windshield.) Supposedly 00 and newer models have some type of screening in place so leaves can't make it in, at least not as easily...

Default I've had that problem with EVERY SINGLE VW/Audi car I ever owned!

At least the ones that had A/C, my early Type 1's did not leak, at least not A/C condensate.

I "assume" it's not as humid in Germany, and they don't see the problem as much.

You are right, so far no leaks in the S4.
