as much as i despise apple, i am considering buying a nano or the regular one. i was going to get phatnoise but it seems like if an ipod can be made to work seamlessly, ill go with that instead.

I've got Blitzsafe ipod adapter....it sucks
audio quality is sub-par...it sounds like someone turned the preamp all the way up.
on the upside, it charges the ipod and audio/video that i rip myself sound fine (because I can turn the input volume down).

ipod + dension ice link
I have an ipod and run it in the car using a Dension Icelink. It seems to work well I have had it in the car for about a year. I would mention a couple of things occasionally it disconnects, the connectors just come lose. This could be due to the way I installed it but more on that in a second. The only other hic-up would be using the radio controls. I would rather use the ipod controls to find a song but I do use the radio controls to skip forward a song. Usually I have to skip back one before the radio controls works it is an odd quirk but not difficult to work around. It is convenient being able to use a hybrid of the radio head unit controls or ipod controls.
For the installation I used the trunk connection from the cd changer rather than the radio connection. From the trunk I ran the cable under the rear seat and floor mat toward the center of the car. This cable connects to a control module. I put the control module under arm rest and forward of the rear ashtray. From the control module a second cable is connected. I pulled out the cup holder ran the connector through the back of the cup holder connected it to the control module. This leaves the connector to the ipod with about 24" of cable coming out of the cup holder. I would rather be able to hold the ipod than use the docking cradle and just opted for the cable rather than the cradle. I'll try to take a couple of pictures if you want more specifics. The tech section does have a write up which was helpful especially in regard to pulling up the seat bottom.
I would consider the Nav Plus, RNS-E, as am alternate option. I did not have an ipod or the dension icelink adapter. The ipod was 300 and the adapter 200 for a total of 500. Making it a bit of a jump to the 1200-1600 it would cost to buy the Nav Plus, RNS-E, with the SD slots but is option and does provide additional fun features for the extra grand or so. The other thing to note is I am not sure if Dension is still selling the Icelink but you may be able to pick one up used for 100-150.
One other item, I have tried in vain to update the firmware to the Icelink to no success. I have seen and tried to follow the tech article without successful results. If anyone has any hints please let me know.
