Picked up silver S4 tip last night, Phila. area...
Have only driven 100 miles, but couldn't be more pleased...Hiroshi at Don Rosen Imports deserves a big thumbs-up for his enthusiasm, knowledge, and straightforward business attitude.
The tiptronic is great fun. It shifts faster than the A4 tip, and also shifts automatically into second at normal (not wide open) throttle openings when in the manual mode. Two reasons for this, I believe. One, fuel economy, something like the skipshift feature on the 6-speed Camaros and Firebirds. (EPA fuel estimates on the tip are the same as the manual--pretty unusual.) Two, acceleration in first gear can be so brutal it's not necessary to use first much in normal driving.
I just returned from AWE in Philadelphia, where Todd downloaded the codes from the engine and transmission ECUs. Garrett (GIAC) will have this info shortly, and we can expect chips for S4 tips in the near future. Unfortunately for me, I'm going out of town for three weeks after Thanksgiving and won't be able to follow-up until I return mid-December. However, I will post new information as soon as possible.
Grins and congrats to all you other happy S4 drivers!
