Default I think I figured it out, but please confirm for me...

Steel uprights are painted black, aluminum ones are silver, IIRC.

No, theose are the control arms. If build date &gt; 10/99 you are probably steel.

be looking at?

Default I'm pretty sure that it's the thing that rises vertically from the hub, behind the wheel...

that the control arms bolt into via the long bolt that's always getting stuck and making people saw off.

Default Upright is the part between the upper and lower control arms...

The tire rod end also connects to it.

Upper section of it (black, steel) is visible here:
