Default Please help... are K03/K16 hybrids considered reliable now?

I just did a big boost run up from a stop to top of 3rd gear and got white smoke exit the exhaust shifting into 3rd and now I've got the dentist drill sound when WOT and going to peak boost. No CEL, drives fine if I'm not hard on the throttle, the dreaded drill sound is only at big boost.

I was planning on K04s next year but can't afford to do a proper Stage 3 setup. I need to get the car fixed so I'm planning to do the K03/K16s based upon cost reasons and also that I don't really need that much power.

Any recommendations on where I should buy from? Searched the archives and it's not really clear on whether they are reliable or not.

Not feeling too good right now, so some helpful information is much appreciated.

Default I've got a set I'm installing in about a month. (more)

Considering those running Jacob's turbos and making great power (Mike's RS6/K04 hybrids, for example), I'm considering them reliable for now.

Anyone I've seen who has had problems has had them taken care of, so I'm not regretting my purchase.

I look forward to putting many miles on them.

For the record, I got a set of K03/K16s which are port/polished, ceramic coated, and clipped.

Also myfootsmells is selling a set which he just pulled from his car (was running them for about 8k miles, iirc) and I'm sure he had no issues or he wouldn't be selling them.

You could talk to him or check the classifieds if you want to purchase his.

Default I would say so, There are plenty of people running them with no problem . However there are a few

documented failures to spice things up abit :-) Just for reference my turbos are with Jacob getting modded:-) -Rob

Default I just had a conversation about reliability with Jacob a day or two ago...

He swears all reliability issues have been cleared up since the batch of bad bearings.

Also, note that Jacob may be reducing the amount of turbo work he'll be doing in the near future due to some lifestyle/location changes.

Default If you can't afford a full stage 3 setup, how can you afford the possibility of two turbo installs?

Not saying you'll have to, but consider that risk. Jacob limits his liability to re-building your turbos. FWIW, it was more than a "few." I'd love to hear of lots of people running them sucessfully, but as it stands, I can only think of a few k03 hybrids running here. Anyone install them in the last 2-3 months?
