Please help with a slight problem changing coolant expansion tank
<flame suit on>
I am a noob when it comes to working on a car, but I figured that this task would be easy enough. I guess that I was wrong.
The original problem was a minor leak from the bottom of the expansion tank. Apparently eough coolant had leaked and baked onto the plug on the bottom of the tank that it weakened the plastic of the clip on the plug. When I went to unplug it the plastic clip shattered in my hand. The plug appears to be OK, but I don't want to risk having it pop out. So, my questions are:
1. How stable will this plug be without 1/2 of the clip on the outside?
2. Will I be safe to drive like this? For a short period of time? Forever? Etc.
3. What would I see as a symptom should I drive like this, and the plug pops out?
4. Is it possible to plug this in backwards? If so, what would happen?
I know that these are stupid questions, and I probably shouldn't touch thing that I don't understand, but I've got to learn somewhere.
Thanks in advance for the assistance.

mine is cracked also, just push it on and it will be fine. if it slides off dab
a little super glue on there and then press it on. you will very rarely need to unplug it. use just a tiny bit, just enough to make it hold. it doesnt matter which way its plugged in either. if it isnt making good contact you will know because the low coolant icon will show up in your center display of the instrument cluster.
you can get a new plug from the dealer and then use a terminal tool to release the pins and insert them in the new plug
