Problems with 1st gear engagment and gear oil...
I'm having problems engaging into 1st gear--from a standstill or downshifting at very low speeds, i.e., 5mph. Other S4 owners who have driven my car have confirmed that this is not normal compared to their cars (thx Rob and Tuan). More notchy than s/b for the S4 and sometimes grinding while rev-matching/double-clutching. Took it the dealer--of course, 'nothing wrong, normal for the S4...'. Syncro problems??
Does anyone have the specs on new AoA-approved gear oil? How does it compare to Redline's gear oil? Any improvements to shifting difficulties with either? Any other gear oils that may improve shifting probs?
TIA

I have the same problem
I notice this too.. but only when it is cold outside as well... after a while, it's a lot smoother.. with the colder mornings this happens.. well, except for the last two days with the nice weather we are having in Chicago..
I thought it might be the SS, and maybe some adjustment problems.. but the problem is off and on.. so I'm thinking no..

Try bleeding your clutch slave cylinder...
Sharon and I had problems like that when we got back from Nat's, was really hard to engage 1st or R at a stop, and we started grinding the 1st to 2nd shift (never really did before!).
Anyhow, the clutch slave hadn't been bled on her car in a while (perhaps ever!), since it's such a pain in the *** to do. We were borrowing a friends lift recently, and bled it. You shoulda seen how dark the fluid was! The car shifts normal again.
