Putting on winter wheels, better tread on front or back??
#3
That's one way to think of it. More tread up front because they wear quicker. The other way...
is to put the tires with more tread on the back because you need better traction back there if driving in the snow/ice. You would rather understeer than oversteer when on snow and ice.

Everybody's got an opinion, and they vary depending on past experiences...
And it depends on what you're driving on as well! Asphalt and rain are a totally different ball game than snow and ice.
I've lost my tail end so fast when driving in snow I was staring face to face at oncoming traffic before I even realized what was going on because the car did a 180.
I too used to run the better traction up front, until I had a couple experiences like the one above where the tail got loose on me so fast I didn't even realize it had happened, let alone take corrective action. Ahh the joys of driving in Canadian winters!
Luckily I have had no accidents resulting from these "loose-tail" incidents.
