Default Question

I get some vibrations through the steering wheel at speed.. usually over 65 mph and gets worse as the speed increases. I think this is because one or more of the wheels are unbalanced. Is there any way of telling which wheel it is, short of taking all of them in to a tire shop?? I would like to be able to just take the wheel off and just take that one wheel in if possible.

Thanks.

Do you think it is the tires out of balance?

Default could be a bent wheel.

ask em to do a high speed balance on the
wheels.
usually only runs about $10-15 per wheel,
and from that the shop should be able to tell
you if you have bent a wheel.
it does not require taking the tire off the
wheel, so if the shop is reputable, it is
unlikely that your wheels will be scratched/damaged
in any way.
don't be worried about it as long as:
1) you can watch from the customer area.
2) it's a reputable shop.

Default Re: Question

When your front tires are out of balance, you will feel it through the steering wheel. When the rears are out of balance, you will feel it more through the seat of your pants.

Huh? Just take your car in. You really should have ALL your wheels checked.

Default I agree w/ Cybernetic...

Had my wheels balanced yesterday. I thought one was out, but all four were.

Default Increasing vibration? A bent wheel tends to have a speed-specific shimmy.

Take the car in and have a good check done on your
tires, wheels, and perhaps even the suspension and
alignment. In my experience a bent wheel will give
you steering-wheel shimmy at a specific speed (the
60-65 MPH range is notorious) but will stop giving
the shimmy after that. A vibration that continues
to worsen with speed isn't what I have experienced
from several bent wheels in the past.
