Default Question about powdercoating rims....

Is it fine to powdercoat rims that are 2 piece, like the DTM kreuz? Will the oven mess anything up?

Default just hope you never have to take them apart.....being 2 piece wheels and all.....

also, won't it add weight to the wheels? Seems like a step backwards, don't ya think?!

Two-piece wheel are welded together. The weight of the powdercoating would be negligable.

Default So if the rim is welded together then powdercoating should not do any harm then right?

Will my rims be balanced still? or have any problems due to the baking?

Default Some answers

Is the wheel painted or powdercoated already?

if so you have to get it sandblasted so the bare aluminum is shown.

Do you know how powdercoating works?

They hang your wheel and then charge your wheel(+/-) then they mist on the powder of your choice. The powder is held on the wheel by the charge then they bake the wheel.

The added weight is negligable and is applied evenly so balancing will not be a problem.

Since your wheel is a welded 2 piece they will have to mask off the area you dont want to powdercoat and remove the masking before baking the wheel.

hope this helps
