Question about Wheel bolt legnth....
I added a set of MTM spacers.
The rears went on with no fanfare. The front protested due to the longer wheel bolts.
After removing them I measured the new bolts. There are about eight or nine threads engaging the wheel hub and I assume extending too far out the other side.
When I cracked the bolts before removing the spacers it took only one turn to allow the front wheels to spin free.
Can I grind a 1/16 off the end of each stud to gain clearance? Is that tolerance a moving target as the front brake pads wear? (I don't know much about our floating calipers)
Thanks in advance..

well,
first off, when I called clairparts
to check up on the price of stock calipers,
mack told me there were two different part
#'s for front calipers dependent on VIN not
model year... apparently some S4's may not
have floating calipers... at least that was
his take. Aside from that... I guess you
could just grind down the end of the bolts...
a friend did the same... probably should only
be a temporary solution though.
if the bolts were pushing up against the caliper,
logically i'd say you don't have a problem,
until you put fresh pads on the car...

I had a similar prob with my longer front wheel locks...
After adding a 5mm spacer, they seemed to be just the right length, but they were actually 1-2mm too long (when measuring threaded area) and it would have clearance probs with the back of the caliper. I took it to a machine shop and had them grind it down just a bit - now it has the proper amount of threads, and no clearance probs...quick, easy fix.

That was my remedy...
But I did it myself.
Just a thought, is there any ongoing concerns with clearance as the front pads wear?
I don't know alot about our floating calipers...
