question: water marks on c-pillar headliner
hi all... been lurking for a while and have a sort of obscure question for the group:
i just did a thorough cleaning of the interior of my '01 S4 the other day and noticed some water marks on the headliner fabric on the c-pillars (both sides), about halfway between the rear windshield and the little back triangle windows... y'know... those sort of jaggedy faint white lines...
Thought it could be a seal problem on the rear window, so I gave the car a good hose-down while washing it, but didn't notice any dampness around the windows on the headliner...
Also wondering if it could have anything to do with getting my windows tinted about a week ago... is there any part of this process that could have caused this if they were sloppy?
Anyone else have this happen? Any ideas?
Thanks,
James

Just posted this bout a week ago
It should still be in here somewhere, check for it...Anyways it seems that most people seem to think theres a sunroof drainage issue. I have the same exact problems as you as do many others...Using a damp warm towel helped to clean it up (the white crust)

it's from the tinting
I had the same marks on my headliner. To apply the tint, they have to get the windows totally wet, and then they apply more water when they are adjusting the fit and pulling the air bubbles out. I actually haven't cleaned my interior since my windows were tinted, so I don't have a good suggestion for getting the water marks out. Let me know if you have success.

I should have written a FAQ on this. If it's from tinting then do the following.
Most tint shops use SOAP when they install your tint. When the soap gets on the C-Pillars and drys, it creates a white ring.
To get rid of this, take a fresh sponge and wet it lightly, take the spong and pat down the area in question, YOU DO NOT WANT TO USE SOAP ON THE SPONGE and DO NOT rub side to side or back and forth, this will only create more SUDS which will form in a new place when it drys. When you are done pating down the area with the sponge, immediately take a PAPER TOWEL and soak up the water, press down FIRMLY to soak up as much as possible. Let dry, you may need to complete the process to remove it completely.

No tint and I have had the same marks from day three...has anyone been able to clean this completely
However, since I first cleaned it and a second episode occurred, the crust has not returned.
