Default Quick question about 19" rims...(more)

If I put 19" rims on my car, does my spare suddenly become useless? The
recommended tire size for 19x8.5 is 235/35/19 - to keep my spare usable, do I have to put a larger tire on it to match the rolling diameter of the 19" rim/tire?
Currently, the stock tire size is 225/45/17 - to match the rolling diameter, what tire size do I need to put on my spare? 235/45/17?
Thanks!!!

Paul

Default Go to tirerack and check the information under manufacturers

I think most of them have the diameter of their tires or some other way to compare.

Default IMHO, it's a close call ...

Your new 235/35-19 has a 1/4" larger radius than the 225/45-17. For an emergency spare only, this is probably OK (though I would have preferred to see within 1/8").

A 235/45-17 would be good, this has a 0.08" smaller radius than the 235/35-19.

Also, a 215/50-17 is essentially an identical match; the radius is within 0.01" of the 235/35-19.
