Default I almost got a 55 in a 35....

But the cop loved the car so he let me go!

I guess it also helps that he said he didnt have his radar on. But he said he could tell I was speeding by the way I took the corner.

Man, I love this car!

Driving a friend's S4 to a track event in Pahrump (teehee) Nevada and got popped at 105 on the I-10 from LA.

He was nice enough to let me drive (first time) and we spent the first 1/2 hour parked in traffic while CHP drug an RV and a van off the road like 50 ft. in front of us. Sitting still behind the wheel of an S4 on a 2-lane divided highway that runs arrow-straight into the desert is NOT my idea of fun. More like torture, especially when you can see the wide open road right in front of you...

So, finally the wrecks are removed and we're ready to move. I quick dispense with the five or six cars in front of us, along with the posted speed limit. All is calm as I run it up over 100 with no cars in sight. We crest a slight hill (forshadowing) and drive under a lone overpass.

Can you feel it coming? Hindsight is a beautiful thing...

Out of the corner of my eye, I see California's finest sitting in the shade of the overpass and can hear him laughing in my mind as we tear by. I glance down. 106. Ouch. Ouch. Ouchouchouch!

I immediately get out of the throttle and watch for him to pull out in the mirror. Nothing. Was he asleep? Did I give him a heart attack? Finishing a donut? We coast over the next rise and he disappears, still stationary, into the rearview.

Still I wait. We're down to 80 or so now, with Mark alternating between giggling and cussing at me. He knows I have a silver tongue, but doubts I'll get clear of this one, especially in his Nagaro rocket. Some of the faster traffic is catching us, but no Smokey. I get braver (several minutes have gone by now) and start to climb back up toward triple digits. Wow, I can tell my kids about that one.

Except... (more foreboding)... Looking in the mirror, I can see him about 200 yds back and gaining like he is late for dinner. I try to slip in between a truck and an SUV, but he's on to me. He pulls in and I give in; hitting the flashers and making for the side. Lights go on and I'm done.

Silver tongue did come in handy. It seems he didn't have his radar on, but hit 120 to catch me. We talked fast cars, racing etc. and I walked away with '80 in a 70' and a slap on the wrist, which means traffic school and no point on the record. Woohoo!

Not so nice for Mark though. Officer Friendly saw his tint (two days old) and dinged him for it... *snicker*

No more giggling from Mark, only cussing. And I didn't get to drive any more, which is too bad since we hit 140 before calling it a night.
~Rich Barker

Default Same Here! [more]

You know I was doing what I thought was 61-62 in a 30 zone and got pulled over. I figured my *** was grass and I'd have a +30mph over the posted limit ticket which is not good news to insurance companies. Plus I am young and they take out their stress on us etc

But instead of a ticket I think like you the cop either liked my hair or he liked my car and didn't give me a ticket! Shortly after that I got my V1 wired in. Then about a week after that i got a ticket for turning on red and the cop wasn't so forgiving. I guess you win some and you lose some.

Hey, I love my car too, Scott

Default In CA it's on the books, you're supposed to go to jail over 100

although I don't know of anyone who has been taken in...way too much paper work for the cop

Default Totally wrong. Not true. Bogus information.

Driving over 100 isn't even a misdemeanor. VC 22348(b) is a special infraction section that calls for a $500 fine for a first offense, but you CANNOT GO TO JAIL for an infraction in California, unless you're stupid enough to refuse to sign the ticket or lip off to the cop. The court may suspend your license for up to 30 days on a first offense. Subsequent offenses within 3 years carry a $500 max fine and mandatory license suspension provisions, but they're still infractions - no jail time.

Some cops will argue that speed in excess of 100 mph constitutes reckless driving, which IS a misdemeanor. But if that was true, why did the legislature pass 22348(b)? Clearly, the legislative intent is for that to remain an infraction. Unless, of course, you were doing 100+ in a school zone, with kids present...

So if you know of an infraction section in California that call for immediate jailing, please let me know. I've been a prosecutor here for 18 years, and I've never heard of any such thing.

Default reader's poll

Oh yeah? I got a lame "unsafe lane change" for not using my blinker on the freeway, the 2nd day I had my S4.
