S4 / RS4 (B5 Platform) Discussion Discussion forum for the B5 Audi S4 & RS4 produced from 1998-2002

It really is nice. I would seriously consider replacing my car with it. <BWW>

Default If they made it in a 5-door and brought it stateside, I'd seriously consider getting an Ibis one

The folks at AoA "AudiTalk" told me:
Dear Eric:

Thank you for your interest in the new Audi S3. We can certainly appreciate and share in your admiration for this model!

There are no plans at this time for production of the S3 for North America, but we will be happy to forward your note to the appropriate persons for consideration in future planning. The preferences and opinions of our customers are very important in developing models for the coming years.

Again, thank you for contacting us. Please write again if we can be of any further assistance.

Marjorie

Default Its the economics

The S3 would require its own crash certification, as the engine, drivetrain and gas tank are different than the A3s. Audi does not expect to produce or sell a lot of these cars and they are going to be expensive even as domestic cars in europe. Importing (and crash certifying)it to the US would make them even more expensive per unit.

Default Ding....

It's also very expensive for overseas manufacturers to comply with U.S. standards. Think about all of the changes and differences in euro cars when they come here.
